Emily Berry, whose first collection, Dear Boy (Faber and Faber) has won the Felix Dennis prize for Best First Collection, grew up in London, the child of two writers. At school, a teacher played her a recording of John Berryman reading his Dream Songs, which she calls “a formative poetry experience”. She says, “I like humour in a poem, but also agony. Dream Songs are definitely a touchstone for me”.
She is interviewed by Sam Riviere, last year’s winner of the Best First Collection prize, here.
