CAN: Cinema Arts Network presents Evidently… John Cooper Clarke LIVE from Newcastle’s Tyneside Cinema, followed by a one-off interview by legendary tour manager Johnny Green with the Bard of Salford himself live-streamed to 14 venues across the UK for National Poetry Day.
Punk poet John Cooper Clarke, the original Bard of Salford, has been writing and performing his own brand of hysterically funny, scathingly political and often deeply moving poetry for four decades. After a teenage life as a Mod in Salford, John started out as a nightclub entertainer in the mid 1970’s in the smoke-filled and often scarily hostile working-men’s clubs of the North. John quickly went on to find a new audience with the emerging Manchester music scene and found himself billed alongside bands such as Sex Pistols, Buzzcocks, The Clash and Joy Division. Forty odd years later John is a relevant as ever, playing sold-out shows nationwide.
